15 Kilometres of Palisade Security Fence and Razorwire

The

Project

At the time of instalation this was the largest palisade fencing project undertaken by an Australian company in the southern hemisphere. Some 15,000 metres , 900 tonne of  steel fence materials were  sea freighted in 45 containers from Melbourne to Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

A 2 stage project, the procurement of materials was one challenge. Stage 2 involved installing the product, and with no immediate contacts the challenge was to find appropriately skilled local Contracting company's to work in partnership.

This AusAID funded project was executed in 2000 in conjunction with SMEC and Gryffin. BFH Sydcon's Ian Ferguson was instrumental in the whole of project, and with his Project Management expertise was able to attain an Industry recognition Award .

Two Australian representatives were on the ground for the duration of the works, imparting sound knowledge and guidance. This was critical to the success of the project,  to keep the works moving at a reasonable pace considering the extreme impact and  seasonal nature of the weather.

Some 42 manually operated vehicular gates were installed around the perimeter, and to this day  ten years on, the fence and gates are in a sound condition.
