Project Description

Client:

Objective:
Construct New Perimeter Security Fence to South East Apron

Summary:

• Design, Manufacture and Installation Contract
• 3.0m and 4.0m High 358 Weldmesh Security Fence
• Hot Dip Galvanised and Powdercoated with Architectural finish powder
• Topped with 8 strands of Electric Fencing

The Challenge

Another project where the design needed tweaking to make the installation possible. Re-engineering was required to meet the wind loading specifications of the site – located on the foreshores of Botany Bay and subjected to significant environmental challenges. The Client required a 15-year Design Life Warranty on the fence structure and a 10-year colouration warranty on the powder-coat paint finish. In consultation with our manufacturers and powder suppliers, we were able to meet this requirement.

Time always seem to present as a challenge. Security Fencing generally ranks lowly on most Construction Programs, and the pressure is on to manufacture and install prior to project handover. All this can be negated with a timely contract award, allowing fair and reasonable time to prepare the project. This rarely happens, so the pressure is on from the get go.

The Result

The fence was finished inside the allocated timeframe, and withstood a significant thunderstorm where winds of 200km per hour were recorded. It proved to be a good test for the engineering, highlighting the need for jobs of this nature to be undertaken by an experienced installation company. Could’ve been very ugly otherwise.

The walk-around at handover was done with the Builder and the Client. No defects were identified and no call-backs have been required since. The Quality systems in place are such that we undertake our own checks prior, and we pride ourselves on our ‘Nil Defects’ reputation.
